Have you ever wondered: 

• Why is Passivhaus considered the gold standard for low energy building, why should you want one and how does it relate to other standards?
• Does the architectural design really impact on the energy performance and comfort? Is the form heat loss factor always king, and does this mean lots of boring boxes?  
• Is it possible to build a Passivhaus from anything? How much insulation do you really need? Isn’t construction quality just down to the site team? What about embodied energy? 
• Why are we providing ventilation in an airtight building, and does it really need to be a mechanical system? Do we need heating at all? What about cooling? And do the windows ever open?! 

The Passivhaus standard is aimed at reducing energy in use, which forms the focus of this course, but we will also cover design strategies for reduced embodied energy and construction waste. Additionally, we will look at both domestic and non-domestic examples, and whilst the focus is new build, the approaches taught will be a useful basis for retrofit.  

All trainers are active practitioners currently working in the Passivhaus sector, sharing their experience of best practice and tackling the real issues that projects may encounter. 

 

This course is an PHT Introductory level course and all attendees gain an attendance / CPD certificate.

We have created an introductory course that includes everything our trainers have learned over years of designing and building Passivhaus and low-energy buildings. Using a range of real-life buildings of various types and sizes, we bring concepts to life through the learning experience.

 

This course comprises of 4 modules over 2 weeks, each with a self-study block of approximately 2 hours to complete before taking part in a live, online 2-hour workshop, where you’ll apply the knowledge to projects with one of our experienced trainers to check learning and test the concepts in real-life situations.
